#TinThoughts: DeMarcus Cousins to the Warriors

Gather round folks and welcome to your latest edition of #TinThoughts.  As you all know, this is the longest running series here at Stay Tuned Folks.  You know the drill, I have a lot of random thoughts on a topic and I spew them out in one place for you all to enjoy.

Where to start?

Let’s start off with the obvious, as a big NBA fan this sucks.  I have never been against super teams and have zero problem with players choosing what is best for their career.  This sucks simply because come playoff time there will be no team good enough to beat the Warriors. A lineup with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and DeMarcus Cousins will be unstoppable.  The Celtics may win a game in the Finals with all of their players finally healthy but inevitably the Warriors dynasty will continue on.

On the flip side, it will be fun to watch this All-Star team in action.  It will be fun to watch teams give them their best shot to take them down.  It will be fun to see just how many games they end up losing.

To everyone ripping Boogie Cousins, take a look at the grand scheme of things for him.  I was victim to calling him a bitch and ripping this decision until I looked at the bigger picture for him.  He tore his Achilles at the end of January.  This means he most likely will not be 100% healthy until around the All-Star break of this upcoming season.  This obviously made teams very hesitant.  Turns out, he had ZERO offers.

Do not blame DeMarcus for reaching out to a team that will allow him to get healthy at his own pace.  A team that will allow him to play to his strengths and not have to be “the guy”.  Most importantly, this allows Cousins to prove himself in the best situation possible and then sign a MASSIVE deal next offseason.

You know who you can blame, every other NBA team who did not reach out and take a risk on this former All-Star.  Blame all the other NBA teams who have given players terrible contracts in the past few years.  They are the reason the market for him was so thin.  When you have players like Ian Mahinmi making almost $16 million this year, players like Boogie are going to do what is best for him.

The thing that sucks about all of this is supposedly he was between the Celtics and the Warriors.  I wish he would have chosen the Celtics.  That would have made the NBA season A LOT more interesting.  Kyrie/Jaylen Brown/Gordon Hayward/Jayson Tatum/DeMarcus Cousins vs. the All-Star team the Warriors trot out every night.  That would have been a must watch NBA Finals.  If you want to be mad at Boogie for not picking the Celtics, that is completely fine by me.  Next time, have all of our opinions in mind when you decide your future DeMarcus.

Before I wrap this up, I think Bob Myers deserves a raise.  The team he has built in Golden State is nothing short of incredible.  Good for you Bob.

End of the day, this sucks as an NBA fan.  Good for Boogie, he is going to get his ring and eventually get the pay day he deserves.  Until then, try to enjoy this NBA season.  We are witnessing one of the greatest NBA dynasties.  At least we have that, right?
