March Madness starts tomorrow and millions of people across the country will no longer care about work one bit. In order to win your bracket tournament, you are going to need to correctly pick the upsets. Everyone loves a good underdog, but which teams will actually win?
I am going to give you some surefire locks when it comes to upsets. Here you go friends, you will need this info to beat Karen from Accounting in the office bracket pool.
(12) Davidson over (5) Kentucky
Your classic 12/5 upset here folks. Davidson recently won the Atlantic 10 tournament and is one of the top 3 point shooting teams in the county ranking 10th nationally in made 3s per game (10.7), 24th in 3-point attempts per game (27.3) and 28th in 3-point percentage (39.1). Kentucky, meanwhile, is one of the best teams in the country at defending the 3, holding teams to 29.9 percent from beyond the arc, which ranks fifth nationally. Your classic strength vs. strength matchup. Davidson has three legitimate scoring options on their team, I like them to take down the Wildcats
(11) Loyola-Chicago over (6) Miami
Chicago needs a basketball team to make a run, look no further than Loyola. They won 28 games this season, including an impressive road win at Florida. Miami lost their star sophomore guard Bruce Bowen with a left foot injury earlier this year. Miami had their share of impressive wins on the road at North Carolina and a win over Louisville earlier this year. Loyola enters the tournament for the first time since 1985 and have won 10 straight heading into the NCAA tournament. Chicago is about to have it’s Cinderella, let’s hope the glass slipper fits.
(13) Marshall over (4) Wichita State
Fun fact to everyone here, this is the first time in tournament history that a college is facing a coach with the same last name as the university. Wichita State’s coach’s name is Gregg Marshall, just wacky stuff. I am going to be honest, I do not have a lot of reasoning behind this one. I needed an upset in my bracket and for some reason I think Wichita State’s luck has run out.
(12) New Mexico State over (5) Clemson
The key to a good bracket is picking a couple 12/5 upsets. You are welcome for that top notch advice, I won’t charge you this time. New Mexico State won 28 games this season including a victory over then #6 Miami. The Aggies have lost 10 straight NCAA tournament games since 1993. It is not feasible for them to lose 11 straight, New Mexico State is a stone cold lock.
(14) Charleston over (3) Auburn
Charleston is headed to its first NCAA tournament in 19 years. Auburn is HEAVILY favored in this game but for some reason I think Charleston is going to pull it off. The College of Charleston Cougars sound like a team that can make a run in the NCAA tournament. Pick them to win and thank me later folks.
